Exploring the Best Custom Builds at SEMA 2024
Today, Stance Auto Magazine hit the ground running at SEMA 2024. While we wandered through endless halls filled with incredible cars and countless vendors, our mission today was clear: find the standout feature vehicles and the stories behind them. We struck gold with four amazing builds—a 2006 Mercedes Benz CLS 55 AMG, a ’31 Ford Model-A, a ’34 Ford 3-Window Coupe, and a 2017 Honda Civic Type R. Although we didn't get the full story on each car just yet, we had the chance to chat with the owners and catch a glimpse into the passion driving these unique builds.

Mercedes CLS 55 AMG: VIP Build with a Chameleon Wrap
Our first highlight was a stunning 2006 Mercedes Benz CLS 55 AMG—a true VIP build. This beauty is wrapped in a mesmerizing chameleon color, shimmering differently as it catches the light, and it sits boldly on Ferrada wheels with carbon fiber splitters. Owned by @2clssymama, this car is just one of her prized possessions. Parked prominently at SEMA, it’s hard to miss, especially when that wrap gleams under the sun. She shared that she’s thrilled to eventually reveal the full story behind this project and mentioned she’s been following Stance Auto Magazine for quite some time. This connection between her enthusiasm for her car and our publication is truly rewarding for us.
Honda Civic Type R: A Radical Transformation
Then we came across a 2017 Honda Civic Type R that breaks the mold for Civics. Owned by Mike Orsino, this Type R sports a purple wrap and Savini Forged wheels, with custom paint graphics under the hood. But what sets this build apart? The custom rear suicide doors. The hinge work is seamless, and the precision of the door’s redesign is jaw-dropping—you wouldn’t know it didn’t roll out of the factory like this. The welds and relocated handle are perfectly hidden, making it look effortlessly authentic. It’s an attention-grabbing feature that had us (and plenty of onlookers) seriously impressed.

The Mistress and the Jigalo: Custom Classic Fords
Our next stop was with a unique couple who are just as passionate about their Fords as they are creative with their names. The husband and wife team own a 1934 Ford 3-Window Coupe called The Mistress and a 1931 Ford Model-A named The Jigalo. And there’s another project on the way—The Bastard Child—as they humorously told us. We couldn’t help but laugh along with them; the names are a quirky reflection of their personalities and love for their cars.
These Fords are immaculate, from top to bottom and beyond—literally. The undercarriages of both vehicles are spotless, polished, and chromed with not a speck of dust or grime in sight. Each car boasts custom paint, and practically every component has been customized to perfection. The level of detail in these builds is remarkable; it’s clear they poured heart and soul into making these classics stand out.
The Spirit of SEMA: Uniting Passionate Car Enthusiasts
SEMA isn’t just about the cars; it’s about the people who build them, the stories they tell, and the passion that unites us. Every car enthusiast here has a journey, a reason for their devotion to building and customizing vehicles. Talking to these owners, we learned not only about their builds but about what fuels their passion for cars in the first place. It’s this shared enthusiasm that makes SEMA such a vibrant, inspiring event.
For those of us in the car community, there’s always something new to learn from each other. This event continues to be a fantastic opportunity to connect, share, and celebrate our love for all things automotive.
