Special interview with Macau Muscle Car Enthusiasts Club
American muscle cars are well-known for their large displacement V-engines and aggressive appearances; however many external influences affecting muscle cars in recent years such as stringent government emission requirements and the rising popularity of electric vehicles.
Despite these a group of enthusiasts have gathered together and formed the muscle car enthusiasts club; together with the Auto Expo it was the club’s first debut in public events, Stance Auto mag reporter hereby bring you the stories of the muscle car owners in the JDM-cars-dominated land of the Far East.
Before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the club had frequently organised muscle car-meets which attempted to reunite all the muscle car owners in town; which is one of the ultimate missions of the club.
Needless to introduce this easily recognisable yellow Camaro is the same model as seen in the Hollywood movie “Transformer”; which is also the reason the chairman of the club – Johnny; acquired her and actively promoted the formation of this club.
“back in 2009 I had the opportunity to visit Utah for 3 months as an undergraduate internship, during the time in the US I was even more exposed to the muscle car culture in addition to what we’ve seen on the cinema big screen; since then I’ve strived the hardest to earn my saving and fulfil this teenager dream. As the chairman I’ll try my utmost effort to unite all the muscle car members and to promote the American Muscle car culture in Macau” said Johnny.
One of our signature show-car in the club is this Mustang GT Convertible with a 5.0L V8, aside from the classic muscle car signature racing stripes it also received a clear-coat protective car wrap; together with a massive Clinched widebody kit; AccuAir air suspension kit; FlowMaster Outlaw Axle-back exhaust system; MAD 19inch 3-piece forged aluminium rims and custom made red carbon fibre racing steering wheel.
“As the secretary of the club I’ve always been fascinated with muscle cars, not only the powerful V8 engine but it gives you a sensation just as a Hollywood movie character while cruising around!” said the owner Sam, who posed as Deadpool in the photo along with his wife as Harley Quinn.
Ordinary thinking towards muscle cars by the public as such that they are macho vehicles for males, however this yellow Mustang Ecoboost, which has a 2.3L turbocharged engine that reaches 0-60 in a modest 5 seconds; is rather unusually owned by a female driver. “I’ve frequently been asked why would such a little girl like me purchase such a big vehicle? It’s because the contour and the coupe with fastback styling captured my attention since my youth. As a civil engineer, my impression has always been more masculinely than typical girls, therefore the muscle appearance of the Mustang is a perfect match of my character” Said the owner Jennifer. “In addition to the RES Valve-tronic duo exhaust system I’ve recently installed, my next modification would be car-wrapping the Mustang into metallic violet with the Japanese cartoon character - Kuromi” Jennifer also added.
This sharp looking orange with black stripe Mustang EcoBoost is also a turbocharged 2.3L in-line 4 engine with a 10-speed Select-shift gearbox. “Although it’s the lowest spec. Mustang but its sufficient performance and relatively fuel-efficient platform make it the best option in a small city like in Macau” said by the owner Dicky. The car has also received aero kit upgrades such as the front bumper lip, side skirt and rear spoiler produced by MP concepts, as well as carbon fibre splitters and enlarged side fenders. Further performance upgrades will also be done in the future.
