A Life Fueled by Passion for Cars
My name is Steven Bruno, and I’m 35 years old. I serve as the Operations Manager and soon-to-be owner of Bruno’s Tuckpointing Inc., a masonry restoration company founded in 1980 by my father, Mike Bruno. Born and raised in Frankfort, IL, I’ve always been surrounded by the hum of engines and the smell of grease.
Ever since I was a little boy, my dad’s race cars were a fixture in my life. Mike Bruno has always been my hero. My early memories are filled with moments in the garage, learning about tools—and often handing Dad the wrong one—and attending the World of Wheels show perched on his shoulders. He made sure I had every kind of motorized toy a child could dream of. My grandpa, Richard Ecker, also played a major role in shaping my love for cars, letting me drive his 1972 Cutlass 442 with a roaring 455 cubic-inch motor. Those moments are priceless.
The Journey to Supra Ownership
Like many car enthusiasts, my journey was shaped by movies and video games. Classics like The Fast and the Furious, Gone in 60 Seconds, and Need for Speed ignited my fascination, while games like Gran Turismo helped me dream up my ultimate garage. Although I initially gravitated toward American muscle cars, my admiration for imports—and the iconic Toyota Supra—grew over time.
The Supra’s unique design, F1-inspired cockpit, and legendary 2JZ engine fascinated me. A turbocharged inline-six capable of over 1,000 horsepower on a stock block? It sounded unreal. I knew I had to own one someday.
From First Cars to the Dream Machine
My automotive journey began with a silver 2000 Camaro Z28 convertible. From there, I built an impressive lineup, including a 1991 Acura NSX, several Corvettes, Pontiac GTOs, and even a 1969 Camaro RS/SS. These cars were there for me through life’s highs and lows, becoming part of my identity.
Despite my love for these vehicles, the Supra always eluded me. Financing a car at market value was a challenge, but I worked tirelessly, saving every penny until I could finally afford the car of my dreams. “Snow White,” my 1994 Toyota Supra Turbo, is the culmination of those efforts—and it’s everything I dreamed it would be.
Building Snow White: A Labor of Love
Creating Snow White was a meticulous process. Inspired by The Fast and the Furious, I designed every detail, from the front lip to the engine compartment’s color scheme. Here are the key modifications:
-
Engine/Drivetrain: A 2JZGTE motor built by Sound Performance with a race-ported head, Brian Crower 272 cams, and a Precision Turbo 7275 ball-bearing turbo.
-
Transmission: Grannas Racing Tremec T56 transmission with a SPEC dual-disc clutch.
-
Suspension: Stance XR1 coilovers with high-horsepower rear differential bushings.
-
Wheels and Tires: Weld RT-S S71 wheels paired with DBA slotted rotors and HPS 5.0 Street pads.
-
Interior: Stu’s LED gauge cluster, carbon fiber TRD steering wheel, and a custom Kenwood audio system.
-
Exterior: Factory white paint with carbon fiber accents, a TRD wing, and custom LED lighting throughout.
Each component was carefully chosen and installed to make Snow White both a showpiece and a performer.
The Supra Experience
Driving Snow White is pure bliss. Whether cruising to car shows or hitting the open highway, the world disappears as the engine roars and the music blasts. The attention the car garners—from passing motorists to car enthusiasts—fills me with pride. The Supra isn’t just a car; it’s a symbol of hard work, determination, and passion. It’s my escape from the stresses of life and a reminder of the dreams I’ve turned into reality.
Advice for Aspiring Supra Owners
If you’re dreaming of owning a Supra, don’t give up! These cars are rare, and finding one in good condition is challenging. Inspect every detail, from body lines to compression levels, and don’t settle for less than perfection. Be prepared for the cost of modifications; parts for a Supra often come with a hefty price tag.
A Car Community Like No Other
The car scene has introduced me to incredible people who share my passion. From local shows to international events like SEMA, the love for Snow White is overwhelming. These friendships have become family, and that’s what the car community is truly about.
What’s Next?
While Snow White is nearly perfect, there are always more projects on the horizon. I’m currently working on custom headlights and considering adding carbon fiber accents to the engine bay. It’s an endless cycle of improvements—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
