Umair Zubair — The Man Behind the Machine

“Build with love and passion… do something that others are not doing.” — Umair Zubair

At 55 years old — though he’ll gladly joke he still looks 25 — Umair Zubair has carved out a life built on discipline, innovation, and relentless drive. Born in Philadelphia, educated at the University of Maryland, and now settled in Riverside, California with his wife and four sons, Umair has spent decades as a Network/Security Engineer.

But away from the corporate world sits the version of Umair his peers know best:
A lifelong builder.
A visionary.
A SEMA veteran with 25 years under his belt.
And the founder of Riamu Design — a brand created from spelling “Umair” backwards.

This year, he wasn’t just preparing another project.
He was preparing a statement.

The Origin of a Builder

Some passions find you early and hold on tight. For Umair, it began with Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars. As he got older, he turned into the kid endlessly washing, polishing, and perfecting his parents’ cars.

To pay for college, he started detailing — learning machine polishing, paint correction, surface refinement and the kind of fundamentals even seasoned builders sometimes skip. He didn’t just learn how to modify cars.
He learned how to perfect them.

Over the years, that skill shaped a long list of standout builds:

  • 1984 Rabbit GTI
  • 1997 Acura Integra GSR — SEMA for Crane Cams + Import Tuner feature
  • Audi B5 S4 on BBS LMs
  • Subaru Legacy GT Wagon — SEMA for Cusco + PASMAG feature
  • Tesla Model 3 Performance
  • Tesla Model S Plaid
  • BMW G80 M3 — SEMA 2025 Booth Vehicle for DNA Motoring

Then came the next chapter:
A 2024 BMW G80 M3 Competition in Tanzanite Blue II over Silverstone, a spec so rare it took 1.5 years to find.

Why the G80 Platform?

With 25 years of SEMA experience, Umair went straight to his industry network:

“If you could build one platform right now… what would it be?”

The answer came back unanimous:
“G80/G82 — easily.”

The reasons were clear:

  • Robust aftermarket support
  • Massive S58 tuning potential
  • Aggressive modern BMW design
  • Highly receptive ECU/tuning ecosystem

Everything pointed to one conclusion:
This was the platform to build — and build big.

The Vision

This wasn’t a “maybe SEMA” project.
This car was purchased with SEMA 2025 as the only destination.

The blueprint included:

  • One-off custom livery designed by Umair’s brother Aasim (IG: @azf80_)
  • Air suspension with aggressive 21-inch fitment
  • Highly polished, colour-matched, and hardware-upgraded engine bay
  • Femto ECU unlock + Jordan Tuned E85 + 93 maps
  • Studio RSR cage + rear seat delete
  • High-end interior upgrades
  • A bold exterior identity without going over the top

And above all:

Fitment. Fitment. Fitment.
As Umair says:
“If it sits wrong, it’s wrong.”

How the Build Feels

For Umair, the joy isn’t just behind the wheel — it’s in every part of the process:

  • Delivering on promises to sponsors
  • Rolling into SEMA knowing the work was worth it
  • Seeing crowds stop and stare
  • Watching phones come up for photos
  • Seeing kids react
  • Feeling proud whether driving or parked

Most importantly, two of his sons now wrench with him — making this a family legacy as much as a feature build.

The SEMA Journey

This was not luck — this was engineering.

The challenges?

  • Time away from family
  • Late-arriving parts
  • SEMA Crunch pressure
  • Sleepless nights
  • Final detail work hours before the trailer rolled out

At SEMA, “done” isn’t done until the lights hit the car.

Acceptance

Multiple sponsors wanted it.
Toyo Treadpass even considered it.

Prestige Marketing’s Mike Lim ultimately secured prime placement with DNA Motoring — and when the confirmation email hit, it meant one thing:

The team delivered exactly what they promised.

The Experience

Crowds gathered nonstop.
Influencers filmed.
Industry leaders approached.
People asked about everything — the bikes, the livery, the stance, the titanium, the finish.

One phrase echoed all week:
“I’ve never seen a G80 built like this.”

Looking Ahead

SEMA 2026 is already in motion.

Will the G80 return?
Maybe as a feature.
Maybe rebuilt.
Maybe replaced.

But one thing is certain:
Umair is nowhere near done.

Dream Car

“The dream car is whatever I’m building next.”

Final Quote

“Build with love and passion — and do something others aren’t doing.”

r0cean11 Photography began as a simple hobby for me—something I explored out of pure curiosity and passion. Twenty-four years later, it has grown into one of the defining parts of my life. Before stepping fully into automotive photography, I spent years building cars for SEMA. I photographed my own builds and projects long before I ever considered taking the craft seriously. That all changed when my last build was totaled; from that moment, photography became more than an interest—it became my purpose. ----------- Today, I shoot and write for Stance Auto Magazine, PASMAG, 742 Marketing Events, Super Lap Battle, Global Time Attack, RACEWORZ, and a wide range of automotive events across the United States. ----------- To me, automotive photography is more than capturing a vehicle—it’s about telling the story that lives within it. Every builder leaves a piece of themselves in their car, and my job is to honor that by showcasing their vision through my lens. ----------- You’ll find my event coverage, feature shoots, and automotive storytelling across all my platforms. I’m always open to connecting, answering questions, and collaborating with builders, enthusiasts, and fellow creatives. ----------- I am also a Partner with Stance Auto Magazine, serving as the Director of Marketing and Media. ----------- Facebook (Personal): Donald Rochin (Donnie Roc)
