Melissa Cox is a true petrolhead with a passion for cars that dates back to her childhood. Her love for Rover and MG vehicles is undeniable, and her current pride and joy—a Max Power Rover 214—is a testament to her dedication and skill. With a history that includes a deep connection to her father’s interest in cars and years of hands-on experience, Melissa has transformed her Rover 214 into a rare and eye-catching ride. In this article, we delve into the details of her journey, the unique aspects of her build, and what’s next for this automotive masterpiece.
A Lifelong Passion for Cars and Modification
Early Influences and First Cars
Melissa’s fascination with cars began at a young age, heavily influenced by her father’s love for racing and motorsports. Growing up watching Formula 1 and other racing events, she developed a keen interest in automobiles, particularly in the world of modification. Her first car was an MG ZR, but her collection has since grown to include multiple modified vehicles, each with its own unique character.
A Journey of Self-Taught Skills
Melissa’s journey into car modification is a story of determination and self-learning. From welding to mechanical work, she’s taught herself everything she knows, often turning to YouTube for guidance and learning through trial and error. Her willingness to dive into challenging projects has allowed her to develop a deep understanding of automotive customization.
The Max Power Rover 214: A Rare Find
The Rover That Got Away
Melissa’s love affair with Rovers started with her first car, and she always dreamed of creating a modified masterpiece. However, the opportunity didn’t present itself until she came across a Max Power Rover 214 that had been off the road for eight years. Knowing she had to have it, Melissa jumped at the chance to own this iconic car. This wasn’t just any Rover—it was one of only four Mynheer Rovers left in existence and had originally served as the company’s test car for their body kits.
The Unique Appeal of a Max Power Legend
Driving a Max Power Rover is an experience like no other. The bold design, aggressive styling, and nostalgic appeal of the early 2000s era make it a true head-turner. Whether she’s popping to the shops or taking it to a car meet, Melissa’s Rover 214 always garners attention. Some people love it, others hate it, but no one can ignore it. The car’s history and rarity add an extra layer of intrigue, making it a standout in any crowd.
Building the Max Power Rover 214: From Crash to Comeback
The Original Build and Restoration
The Max Power Rover 214 was originally built by Mynheer in the early 2000s as their company car, used to test and showcase their body kits. However, the car was involved in a crash in 2008, and its future seemed uncertain. That’s when Melissa stepped in. She took on the challenge of restoring the car, fixing the entire front end and giving it a new lease on life. The engine, which wasn’t in the best shape, was swapped out for a more powerful Rover T16 2L turbo engine from a Rover 600. This upgrade brought the car’s performance stats up to an impressive 220 bhp, making it as formidable under the hood as it is on the outside.

Melissa’s Max Power Rover 214 is a carefully curated blend of style and substance. Here’s what makes this build truly special:

No project of this scale is completed alone, and Melissa has a few key people to thank for their contributions. Special shout-outs go to @richs_fabrication_shop for crafting the custom exhaust that adds both performance and style to the build. Melissa’s journey with her Max Power Rover 214 wouldn’t have been possible without the support and expertise of those who helped along the way.
