I'm a retired US ARMY combat veteran, it has always been my dream to own a Nissan GTR. When I retired my wife surprised me and basically gave me the "green light" to go buy one. After the Military, I began working in the Defense industry. So I spend a lot of my time traveling and deploying to many undisclosed locations.

Growing up it was always "cool" to me to watch all the grown-ups gathered around a car and hear the sounds of the engines. I'll never forget when my dad bought his first Camaro in Candy Apple Red. Watching him wash the car on the weekends and the time he would spend showing me how to wax a car and detail it. And the pride he had when he would drive that car and people would compliment the car and how meticulously clean it was. Those are the little things that stuck with me over the years.

The GTR was always my dream car and I recall reading an old article from AMS Performance about what they have been accomplishing with GTRs the more and more I read into it, I loved the fact that these cars all had full interiors, Air conditioning, and still reliable daily drivers, I say this because I had a Mitsubishi GS-T that was pretty quick given the time. But we used to do anything we could to shave off a few seconds when racing other people. And yes, this was years before the Fast and Furious saga, lol.

Fast forward a few years and I had made up my mind that I would start with some mild mods. At the time I was living in Hawaii and I was collaborating with BulletProof Automotive in California. I wanted to change up the look of the GTR and give it a slightly more aggressive look than it already had. Most people were always going with Liberty Walk or Rocket Bunny kits. So I did a little research and I recall seeing in an article a ChargeSpeed Japan wide-body kit, and I was in love. In my opinion, it was the perfect mix between wide body and aggressive. So BulletProof Automotive was able to acquire the Wide body kit from Japan. It took a few months of waiting but it was definitely worth it in the end.

So we shipped the GTR from Hawaii to California and they completed the installation. It was shortly after that I met a good friend from Falken Tires. Initially, they provided me with sponsorship for tires and I made it a point to attend every show I could in SoCal to represent the company. So around May of 2018, I began working with Falken to have permission to have my R35 GTR wrapped in their famous "Teal & Blue" Race Livery. After a few months, we were finally the first R35 GTR to sport the livery. We had a little bit of fun with the GTR and competed in the Nissan Challenge and ran the car on the Auto Club Speedway track in Anaheim, CA.

Once we had our fun with the GTR on the track I wanted to check something off my bucket list. I wanted to take the GTR to SEMA in 2019. So I worked with VoodooRide and Harrison Performance and we went wide-body with the GTR and installed one of the Wildest and Brightest wraps anyone has ever seen. SEMA was an absolute blast and I recommend that if you're a car fanatic then you should see this in person at one point or another. However, due to COVID restrictions in 2020, we were very limited on shows and it killed the car show season for us.

In October 2021 we decided to remove the Highlighter Yellow wrap and repaint the whole GTR. Bustamente Quality killed it with the new paint job and Harrison Performance switched the GTR from COBB to tuning with ECUTEK and installed a TRex 10" tablet giving the GTR a much-needed facelift.

And after just a year here we are again on to the next design and looking for the GTR. I always look to be original in what I do with my GTR. And we have all heard the quote before. "In a world full of trends I want to remain a classic", so essentially that's what I strive for with my GTR. and thanks to the partnership with MOTUL USA and ColorBomb Wraps we were able to make this idea into a reality.

This car still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. Whether I'm parking and walking away from it, I still look back at it as if it were the first time. I do own multiple vehicles but I daily drive this GTR to work 2-3 times a week.

One of my favorite things to do is to allow people to see the interior and sit in it. Lots of kids are very shy to ask. But I love sharing this because I was once that kid at shows. I have to admit the first year it was kind of odd having people randomly take pictures while I was driving or sitting in a restaurant. But at this point, I've gotten used to it and even offered to let them pose with the car and look at the engine and trunk setup.

If I was asked what makes my car stand out from the rest I would definitely have to go with the Charge Speed Japan Widebody kit. I believe I was the 2nd kit in the US. and as I mentioned before every show that I attend there's always a bunch of Liberty Walk wide-body GTRs. Nothing wrong with them at all, I simply just wanted to be a little different and stand out from the crowd.

Specs

The car is equipped with Air Lift Performance 3P bags over Bilstein shocks. It rests on the ground with help from a 5-gallon seamless air tank and VIAIR 440c air compressors.

The GT-R sits on a set of Savini SV71 3-piece forged wheels, 20×11.5 up front with a negative 3-degree offset and 20×12.5 in the rear with a negative 66-degree offset. They are, of course, wrapped in Falken tires.

Not only does the GT-R have style, but it also packs power and performance. The car puts down an impressive 685 wheel horsepower thanks to the VR38DETT 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine. Each turbo has a Turbosmart blowoff valve and the engine contains many parts from Speed By Design, including cold-air intakes fitted with K&N filters, a Super Race front-mount intercooler, and an intercooler piping kit.

Supplying fuel to this monster is a set of DeatschWerks 1300cc injectors — it runs a Visconti Tuning E85 Flex Fuel kit and is tuned by an EcuTek program.

The engine breathes through an HKS Legamax exhaust with HKS downpipes and a mid-pipe, while the engine is backed by a Jacks Transmission Drag 800/GR6 transmission. The car’s stopping power comes from a set of Brembo brake calipers with Endless brake pads.

Who did the work?

I went to see a good and long-time friend Richard Harrison from Harrison Performance and Tuning. Richard has created a name for himself in the GTR community and has built many 1000hp GTRs and built numerous cars for SEMA.

While I was in Afghanistan I entrusted Richard and his team to take the GTR to the next level. We spoke numerous times and I explained to him my vision and what I was looking for. And all I can say is that they delivered the vision I had in my head. During each transition of the GTR, Richard has been there to help me accomplish my goal.

Richard's shop handled the installation of the Wide body kit for SEMA, they pulled the engine and powder coated all of the engine components. They also color-matched the Brembo brake calipers to match the engine parts and intercooler pipes. They have serviced and adjusted my Air Lift Performance air ride system and even installed my TRex tablet while integrating all of my gauges.

One of the many reasons I love working with him is that he will go above and beyond for his customers. And while he may not have the cheapest prices he is definitely worth every penny. I can attest that I have driven my GTR from Tucson, AZ to Anaheim, CA for a full weekend of track abuse and driven it right back home with no issues.

I personally love power and performance but most importantly I love reliability. Harrison Performance has always delivered that time and time again.

Future Plans:

We are currently working on making a custom front splitter and canards to add a more aggressive look and provide some functional downforce. We will be upgrading the interior with a full roll cage and possibly some engine mods to increase the power levels.

Advice/Tips

If I could share any advice, I would tell people to just follow through and stop waiting to do something. Do whatever you want with your car/build because, at the end of the day, you are building it for yourself and really don't need anyone else's approval. Just as long as you're happy with it.

And always be kind to people you meet at car shows and meets. There are so many young kids looking up to you and wishing to have that same car or be in your position. So set a good example for the future generation or enthusiasts are depending on it.

Shout Outs:

For me being part of the car scene, it is all about the connections you make with people. At this point, I could care less about a $30 trophy. I want to share my passion with cars and other people and create memories.
