“Never dream too small.” — Ryan Lewis
My Porsche Cayman S Build Story
My name is Ryan Lewis, and I'm originally from Granite Bay, California. In 2012, not long after graduating high school, I moved to South Lake Tahoe—and I’ve never looked back. Tahoe opened the door to a whole new community, one that ultimately led me to my wife. Now, we’re counting down the weeks to our first child, due this August.
I’ve always had a thing for cars—like many, it started young. I grew up watching the Fast and the Furious movies and hanging out with my dad in the garage while he wrenched on his cars. That hands-on exposure planted the seed early. By 2012, I had officially joined the car scene with a built SG9 Forester. I stepped away from cars for a while in 2015, but came back strong in late 2023.
From Marketplace Find to Full Custom Cayman
I’ll be real—I never planned on owning a 987 Cayman. I picked one up that was already heavily modified and thought, “Okay, this is pretty cool.” But after a while, I started disliking it. The salvage title bugged me, and honestly, it just didn’t feel like mine. I hadn’t built it.
So, I hunted down a clean-title Cayman and used the first car as a donor. The build you see now is the result of that swap—a fully personalized Porsche Cayman S with extensive modifications, from the Airride suspension and motor tweaks to the full cage and widebody kit.
Funny enough, I wasn’t even looking for the first car—it just popped up on Facebook Marketplace. Something about it stood out. Maybe it was fate.
Early Builds and Humble Beginnings
I passed my driver’s test in my dad’s 2006 Volvo S60. At the time, I thought it was a total beater. But my first real project was a 2005 Ford Ranger. It didn’t even run when we got it—my dad towed it home. No engine, no transmission, no wheels—just a bare shell. I was still in high school, working part-time at Taco Bell, and we built it up piece by piece from local junkyards.
That Ranger turned into a 5.0L supercharged Baja-style truck. It taught me how much patience and hustle goes into building something from nothing.
Why This Build Matters
This Cayman isn’t about clout or attention. Sure, it turns heads. The green and gold color combo gives off a “money” vibe that people don’t forget. But I didn’t build this car for anyone else—it was for me.
That said, I’ll admit that lately, driving it feels more like a chore. It’s not that I don’t appreciate it—I do. I just think my attention is shifting toward other projects. Still, seeing it parked, knowing every bit of effort that went into it, is incredibly satisfying. It’s a reminder of what I’m capable of.

We travel together, push each other, and share the same passion for modified cars, community, and creativity. These aren’t just car friends—they’re life friends.
Being in this scene has introduced me to incredible people, opened business opportunities, and taught me a deeper respect for the culture we’re all building together.
Advice for Car Enthusiasts
If you’re just starting out—do your homework. I had no clue what I was doing when I began. Mistakes will happen; they’re part of the journey. What matters most is that you keep learning and growing.
Whether you're building a JDM icon or a Euro street beast, the scene has room for you—just make it yours.
Dream Car? Already Got It.
When people ask me what my dream car is, I don’t hesitate—it’s my 1985 Mercedes-Benz 190E. I’ve got other builds in mind, but that car has always had my heart.
Final Words
Never dream too small. If you want something, build it. Whether it’s a car, a business, or a new path in life, it’s all possible. You just have to chase it with everything you’ve got.
