Pushing the Limits: 2015 Nissan 370Z Nismo Tech Shows Off Aggressive Styling and Track-Ready Performance

Born and raised in the mid-Ohio valley in the small town of Parkersburg WV is what I call home. I was born in 1989, and have spent my entire life here in a pothole-ridden, yet beautiful-natured region. By profession I work for one of the United States largest natural gas exploration and production companies, working in the logistics realm. I am a husband to my amazing wife Melissa, who puts up with my non-stop car-talking addiction daily. Besides car hobbies, I enjoy golfing, mountain bike riding, WVU sports, and maybe the worst addiction of them all, sneakers.

They say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. My interest in cars and essentially anything with a motor comes from my father. He is now 70 years old, and throughout his life, he has owned over 46 vehicles and 56 motorcycles. Early childhood memories of mine include being the kid holding the flashlight, we all remember how that goes! I was 12 years old when the F&F saga began. What a time to be alive.

That's when my obsession with imports and tuners began. Seeing a Supra bust the doors of a Ferrari, it doesn't get any better. It is amazing how a film can be so inspirational. Once that series took off, like many others of my generation, I was immediately hooked.

What made me choose this Car?

I got my first Z back in 2008. From that moment, I was hooked on the platform. Ive had a variety of cars such as S2000, mustangs boosted Honda's, but my obsession for the VQ platform has carried me through a 2005 350z, a 2003 350z, a 2007 G35 coupe, a 2010 370z Nismo, and now my widebody 2015 370z nismo. I chose this Z for the simple fact of wanting to get to that next level, and this Z was it.

A Nismo is a masterpiece in itself, but throw on a  widebody kit, air suspension, work wheels, and a bunch of carbon, these cars speak for themselves when going down the road. This specific Z will see itself through continuous customization, and I can't wait!

What it feels like to drive this car?

Anyone with a modified car knows that feeling you get every time you take your car out for a drive. It is neat seeing everyone from the younger generation to grandparents sending compliments as your cruise down the road. The sound of a 3.7 VQ with unrestricted exhaust makes me smile every time I drive this car. That coupled with the rev-match downshifts makes driving this car a blast. Sitting in the cockpit you still have the triple gauges on the dash paying homage to the original Datsun 240z, how could you not enjoy it?

What makes my car Unique?

There isn't much on this car that has not been touched. It's not uncommon to see a 370z around, but adding a Niko carbon widebody kit, aftermarket bumpers, 20" work 3p wheels, BMW San Marino paint, air ride, and all the other modifications turns a normal Z into a ride that most people in small town WV have never seen. Given all of the companies that specialize in Z parts, it's easy to mold these cars into a one-off unique masterpiece, all of which differ from one another.

Who did the work?

The initial build of this car was done in Houston, TX. The original owner (shout to Haley Ferner) had the widebody molded and body work done by Santa Ana Body Shop. The headlights were custom-built by Houston Halos. The work wheels were purchased through Straightsiximports out of Canada.

The car went to its second owner (shout to James Liebhart) from Arizona where he built the hatch air ride setup, and got the car retuned by Gabe_ipl. Since my ownership began in December of 2022, I have installed new interior bits through sponsorships with Braum and Mannici and some miscellaneous parts from JD Customs USA. The car has received a full polish and ceramic coating with PPF applied on some of the surfaces through WKautodetailing.

Future Plans

Future plans include taking this car to a new phase over the next few years. Shortly I am going to be upgrading the brakes. Plans to do custom tail lights are in the works also. Long-term plans for this car are to get a new set of widebody spec wheels, upgrade the air management, and eventually do a full color change. In the meantime, I will continue to enjoy this Z in it's current state every time I take it out of the garage!

Advice/Tips

My advice to anyone, especially the younger generation is to be patient, have a plan in place, know what you want, and go get it. When you have a goal set, you must work hard to achieve it as nothing is given. Save money, don't settle, and do things right the first time around as it will save you money and headaches in the long run. There is nothing wrong with buying a car that is already modified, as you can build off that start and create your own vision into a reality. Most importantly, do what YOU like. Don't build your car for anyone else except yourself. Create your vision, set your goals, and work hard. Enjoy the ride.

Shout Outs

Shouts to @haley.ferner & @aznumerox for the hard work and time they have put into the build of this Z. Big shout-out to @itwitchdaily for the phenomenal photo shoot sessions. Shouts to the Z community @zociety_ and vendors such as @fly1motorsports. Last but not least, shout out to my brother @stier523 who took me under his wing when I was just a 15-year-old kid trying to get into the car scene.

The Scene

Inspiration and relationships. The culture has grown over the years through social media presence and shows I like to attend such as SlammedEnuff where you can gauge ideas on where to take your build next. More importantly, I have met my best friends and what would be considered family through the culture and car scene over the last 19 years of my life.
