A Lifelong Passion for Cars
My name is Joseph Aime, and I live in New York City. Cars have always been a central part of my life, shaping who I am today. From my early days as a child glued to NASCAR races to becoming an automotive YouTuber and builder, my love for cars has been unwavering. Over the years, I’ve built many vehicles, starting with Honda Civics and Nissan Sentras before transitioning to European cars like the BMW E30 and E46 M3. Eventually, I reached a milestone: owning one of my dream cars, a Porsche 911 GT3RS. Today, I’m proud to say I’m on my fourth Porsche 911.
Influences and Inspiration: The RWB Vision
My journey to owning a Porsche RWB (RAUH-Welt BEGRIFF) began years ago. Akira Nakai, the founder of RWB and a legendary Japanese car tuner, has always been a source of inspiration. His fearless creativity, combined with a rich racing history, broke boundaries in the car world. I first discovered Nakai’s work 15 years ago when I saw his iconic wide-body Porsche builds in magazines. His unapologetic approach to creating cars for himself, regardless of purist opinions, resonated with me deeply.
As a lifelong fan of JDM and European cars, building an RWB Porsche became my ultimate goal. It was a chance to blend my roots in JDM culture with my passion for Euro design, bringing together the best of both worlds. After years of dreaming and planning, this vision became a reality—albeit with some delays due to the pandemic in 2020.
The Build Process: From Concept to Reality
This build wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support of my wife, close friends, and sponsors. Here’s an in-depth look at what went into creating my 1995 Porsche 911 RWB.
Exterior Transformation
The wide-body kit from RWB is, without a doubt, the centerpiece of this build. The original factory black paint of the Porsche 993 was replaced with a custom color inspired by Porsche’s “Viola Purple Metallic.” Thanks to the talented team at Phantasy Kolors and BASF, we modified the base color by adding more pearl metallic and topped it with a unique matte clear finish. The result is a one-of-a-kind hue that draws attention wherever the car goes.
To protect the paint, I applied STEK’s “DynoMatte” paint protection film with “Dyno Damascus” accents on the canards and wing. Combined with the aggressive stance of the RWB kit, the car is a head-turner from every angle.
Custom Wheels and Tires
I designed the wheels through Evo61 Wheels:
-
Front: 18x10.5 with a 5.5-inch lip
-
Rear: 18x13.5 with an 8-inch lip
The wheels feature white centers, chrome barrels, hidden hardware, and custom hex nut center cap covers. The car rides on Toyo R888R tires (265/35/18 front and 335/30/18 rear), offering unparalleled grip and performance.
Brake System
The braking system features:
-
R1 Concepts 6-piston calipers up front and 4-piston calipers in the rear
-
Two-piece cross-drilled slotted rotors
-
Steel braided brake lines
The calipers are finished in yellow with black logos, perfectly complementing the vibrant color scheme.
Interior Details
The interior is inspired by the 993 and 964 RS models and includes:
-
RS door cards
-
Custom RS Recaro Pole Position seats with black leather, yellow stitching, houndstooth centers, and white hardback shells
-
RS rear seat delete with matching carpeting
-
Sound-deadening removal and radio delete
-
A Titan Motorsports custom-coated half-cage in white
-
A CAE short shifter and a custom RWB steering wheel
Suspension Upgrades
Handling and performance were key priorities. The suspension features:
-
Bilstein PSS10 coilovers
-
Tarett adjustable drop links, toe links, and toe lock plate kits
-
Monoball upper strut mounts (front and rear)
-
Motorsport control arm bushings
-
Rennline solid rear subframe bushings
-
ERP rear camber and kinematic control arms
The setup ensures the car feels like a street-legal go-kart, offering precise handling and grip on every corner.
Who Made It Happen?
This build wouldn’t have been possible without the collaboration of several talented teams:
-
Nakai-san: The mastermind behind the wide-body kit
-
Phantasy Kolors and BASF: For the breathtaking custom paint
-
Porsche Englewood: For helping with the interior and brake kit installation
-
Butzigear and Tarett Engineering: For suspension upgrades
A huge thank you to my sponsors, including Toyo Tires, R1 Concepts, Evo61 Wheels, and many others who contributed to this journey.
Future Plans
The only part of the car that remains untouched is the engine. In the coming weeks, I plan to rebuild it and add a turbocharger, aiming for a power output between 600-700 horsepower. This will truly complete the transformation of my RWB 993 into a performance and aesthetic masterpiece.
