From a Beater Corolla to a Show-Stopping 2014 Scion FRS
Hi, I'm Anthony Gonzalez, and I’ve been into cars for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I was into video games like Fortnite, Call of Duty, and Madden. I also enjoy sports, especially football and boxing, and I’m a collector—Funko Pops are my thing. When I’m not working on my car, I love spending time with my dogs and girlfriend, exploring new places, and trying out new things.
My journey into car culture really started during my senior year of high school. I drove a beat-up Toyota Corolla back then, but seeing the cool kids driving their nice cars after school sparked something in me. My first real car was an RSX, but at 23, I upgraded to my 2014 Scion FRS, and that's where my passion for customization really took off.

Why the Scion FRS?
Initially, I wanted an S2000, but when a buddy put his FRS up for sale, I jumped at the chance. I was looking for something newer and more customizable, and the FRS turned out to be the perfect platform. The options for modifying this car are endless, and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a fun, easy-to-work-on ride.
My FRS has come a long way, from stock to a bagged widebody build. The car now has a bright candy red wrap and tons of custom goodies, making it stand out in the 86 community. It has won awards at Spocom and Tuner Evolution and has even been accepted to both San Jose and Los Angeles Wekfest shows.
What Makes My FRS Unique?
The thing that sets my FRS apart is the combination of the 2017 86 front-end conversion and the NIA Auto Design lip and rear spats. While most people go with popular kits like Modelista or 326 Power, I wanted to do something different. I also run Pandem 6666 wheels, which are technically meant for the V3 kit, but I made them fit with some camber adjustments.
I didn’t want to go the Rocket Bunny route for the front bumper pieces, as they felt too small for my vision. Instead, I opted for Rallybacker pieces and combined them with Rocket Bunny V2 front fenders, side skirts, and V1 rear fenders. The V2 duckbill and diffuser complete the aggressive look I was going for.

Who Helped Bring This Build to Life?
I’ve been lucky to have the support of some talented shops and friends. Patino Kustom Designs handled the wrap, while Jun and Benji at Aplus Auto Sound in Las Vegas worked on the sound system. PLO Tires Las Vegas also played a key role in getting everything dialed in. Of course, I did as much of the work as I could myself!
Future Plans for My FRS
As far as future upgrades go, I’m looking to add Bride seats, swap out my current roll cage for a white Studio RSR one, and maybe even do a K-swap down the line. I’d also love to add the Password JDM engine dress-up kit and R1 Concepts BBK. There are still a few cosmetic tweaks I want to make to help the car shine even more at shows.
Shoutouts
I want to give a huge shoutout to my girlfriend for sticking with me through this entire build, from stock to showstopper. Big thanks to my parents for always being supportive and to all my friends and followers who’ve admired and supported the car—it means the world to me!
Dream Cars
While I’m super proud of my FRS, my dream cars include the Nissan Silvia S15, Nissan R35 GTR, and a Lamborghini STO.
