2018 Bagged Widebody BMW M2 Big Turbo - Justin Angelo

As time progressed I wanted more than a BRZ. I wanted to do something unique and very custom that no one else had seen which is what led me to the M2. I initially chose the M2 because I felt that it better represented me as a person during that time frame.

Performance Stats: The M2 made 595Whp 623wtq running full e85 at 27psi on a Precision 6466 Turbo

My name is Justin Angelo. I am originally from New Jersey but I have been residing in San Diego for a little over a year now. I work as a computer programmer as well as installing in-home movie theatres.

I currently own a Darwin Pro widebody 2018 M2 and a 2017 Mclaren 570s that is currently in progress. Outside of car culture, I enjoy spending time with my close family, friends, and girlfriend. I enjoy taking my stunt bike out to various stunt bike events. During the winter time outside of preparing the M2 and Mclaren 570s for the show season, I enjoy snowboarding and travelling to Aruba.

I have been into cars since I was about 16 years old. I began modifying cars when I first bought a 1988 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS. This car sparked my interest in an automotive culture which is what led me to be in the position I am in now. As time progressed I began developing a following when I began modifying a 2015 Subaru BRZ.This initial build had caught traction initially with an authentic rocket bunny kit sprayed in AutoflexHypershift  ZTS.

As time progressed I began adding more and more parts. It went from another hobby to becoming a passion. Over time I came to the realization that people who I did not know at all and were from various parts of the world were very supportive of this passion I had developed for modifying cars. This support from people with the same interest as me is what kept encouraging me to pursue my passion for automotive culture.

As time progressed I wanted more than a BRZ. I wanted to do something unique and very custom that no one else had seen which is what led me to the M2. I initially chose the M2 because I felt that it better represented me as a person during that time frame. The M2 in my eyes was a more modern version of the E46 M3 and the M2 is rear-wheel drive which is what I wanted.

The M2 ended up providing me with the comfort and performance I had wanted. In terms of customizations, I knew I wanted to do something very unique. Hence why I chose the Darwin Pro Widebody kit for the M2. The inspiration for the Darwin Pro Widebody Kit stemmed from the video game Gran Turismo. This kit is one of seven kits known to be out that I am aware of. With this being a not very seen on the road kit it had caught my attention more to build a car that stood out at shows and meets. I had also chosen to stick with the OEM colour, Long Beach Blue, to keep some aspect of it OEM in a sense as well.

What it feels like to own the M2 is a very subjective question. I think owning the car really just depends on the individual. Personally, for me, the M2 is more than just a car. Owning the M2 is a reminder that regardless of where you come from anything is possible. Watching the M2 go from bone stock to having a rare body kit on it has really made me take a step back and reflect on how far I had come in my short lifetime.

Back in New Jersey, I had been living in what would be considered a not-so-great neighbourhood to being able to move to a city that people from all over pay to vacation in. It feels like I am able to accomplish anything that I choose to pursue. The M2 overall is just a daily reminder that anything is possible no matter your background. In terms of what it feels like driving my car, I would say it definitely has power. I recently went on a canyon run and I really pushed the M2 beyond its limits. It felt like I was in a round of Need for Speed chasing all these other 600+ horsepower exotics.

During this canyon run, I definitely felt out of my comfort zone but at the same time, I was proud of how the M2 was handling the canyon run. This run really put into perspective how all the effort and time put into this build was very well worth it. The M2 was able to keep up with Porsche GT3RS, the Mclaren 720s, and a Lamborghini Huracan. Daily driving the M2 is definitely an attention catcher which I am still adjusting to as well. The attention that the M2 attracts will always feel so weird to me no matter how often or how long I own the car. Driving the M2 will always feel like an accomplishment that I had not expected to accomplish but still did it.

The M2 definitely stands out from a lot of other M builds due to the Darwin Pro Widebody kit. I think what also makes it stand out besides the body kit would be the airlift performance set-up. Initially going into this build I knew I wanted to bag the M2 because I had always wanted an aspect of stance to be built into some part of the build.

Having the bag set up also allowed me to be able to manoeuvre around San Diego without worrying about potentially damaging the carbon fibre front lip. I would also say that the Darwin pro carbon hood with see-through glass opening the view into the engine bay is also what makes the build really stand out. This is honestly one of my favourite pieces because I haven’t really seen any other builds with this piece in San Diego.

Who did the work

@exoticstuning @mtc.design

They have done all the bodywork including all darwin pro aero pieces. The custom mtc design 3 piece wheels are built to spec for the kit and air ride system. Also has resourced the colour match to OEM Long Beach Blue colour

@studiorsr

They have done all the custom work starting with the 1 off-rear seat delete made out of aluminium wrapped in Alcantara with beautiful installation. They have also done my custom roll cage and installed my Sparco carbon seats with Schroth harnesses which are wound up around the studiorsr harness reels.

@rat4life

From the time I started modding cars, he has been the only one installing all the air ride systems on any of my vehicles. He's been in plenty of magazines, his work is over-the-top clean and the custom trunk setups with hard lines are amazing

@stg_motorsports

He has done all the performance on this vehicle since the day I got it. Has a very humble shop, mostly run by just himself. Very meticulous work and super clean. He has installed the titanium fiexhaust, Fuel its fuel system, port injection, Precision turbo kit, upgraded fuel pumps, etc.

Future Plans

At this point in time with the Darwin Pro Widebody kit on the M2, I would like to say I am happy with the M2 aesthetically. I do not think that there is anything else I would change on the M2 unless something new arises for the M2 in the near future. Maybe potentially centre on the engine bay a bit more. The more carbon parts I come across the more I am most likely to buy the parts for the M2 but I would also like to make more than 595WHP. I think right now I will take a break during the fall and maybe later in the winter time I will start doing more research on what else I could improve or upgrade on the M2 in order to make maybe around 650WHP or maybe even more. Who knows but with time it will come.

Advice/Tips

In terms of advice or tips, I would say just keep doing what makes you happy. This is a very common and slightly corny line that everyone has heard but had I not kept pursuing what brought me joy in my life I would not be where I am today. Another piece of advice I would offer is to build your car to your liking regardless of social media influence. I know in today's age with social media heavily influencing people, many will build their car according to what is trending or what will get the most attention.

At the end of the day, you are responsible for your own happiness. Following trends on social media or doing what will get the most likes definitely will not get you there. The clout is not worth any amount of money or followers in the world. In my humble opinion, doing what makes you happy and being a kind person will get you a lot farther in life than any amount of clout.

Shout Outs

Gifted Life Styles Merch

Being into cars I have definitely received a lot. Through cars, I am able to go to these insane events with hypercars, classic JDM, and muscle cars. Although our taste in cars may vary at these events at the end of the day we still share the same hobby and can help one another out while appreciating the diversity in the car scene. In addition to this, being into cars has opened up a lot of business opportunities for me.

These opportunities have allowed me to make my hobby a side job. What else is better than doing what you love as a side job? One last big thing that the car scene has introduced me to is some of my closest friends and my girlfriend. Initially moving to San Diego I did not know anybody. I moved out here with just myself, the M2, and my dog Ozzy. Slowly I began going to nearby car meets and events to meet new people. Over time I found myself a small group of people I could call a second family. These are the people I  invite over, go out to dinner with, and who are always down for a car meet or show.
