2022 Ford Mustang S550 - Clive Hendricks

This current Mustang is my 3rd S550. I sold my 2019 due to how crazy the market was and wanting a premium package car. So I saw a buddy Dalton and ordered this car in January 2022. The 6 months wait is totally worth it, I like the S550 chassis so much, it handles very well, has plenty of power and is very comfortable, plus it fulfils my Mustang dreams

I’m a Senior program manager at Canoo Technologies, we build EVs. I live in the DFW TX area and am a Texas native. Modifying cars for over 25 years.

Well, my dad is a car guy so a lot of what I have learned came from him, helping me work on cars from around 8 years old. I am also from a time when we still had auto shop classes in school. Other than that, I am very self-taught in modifying and mechanics. I really got big into the car scene while living in Hudson Valley New York. The whole tri-state area up there gets down. I have been to Hunts Points and seen the Garden State parkway shut down before for antics.

From being a teen I always wanted a 69 Mustang. A Boss, or any, it's my favourite. So for years I would think about it but ended up in many different cars, like Audi's BMW, Honda, STi, etc etc. I am on car number 37 or so. This current Mustang is my 3rd S550. I sold my 2019 due to how crazy the market was and wanting a premium package car. So I saw a buddy Dalton and ordered this car in January 2022. The 6 months wait is totally worth it, I like the S550 chassis so much, it handles very well, has plenty of power and is very comfortable, plus it fulfils my Mustang dreams.

I chose the Mustang for a few reasons. Firstly one of my friends Sean had a foxbody making 700 whp, a ride in that car affirmed my pony chase. 2nd: The Coyote motor is very reliable and capable. For some simple work and Forced induction, you can be in the 600-800 WHP range. 3rd: the looks and layout. Front engine rear drive and manual trans is a great combo. I like twisty roads and HPDE's so handling is important. The mustang has so much character that subtle exterior mods make it shine.

It feels amazing, out of all the car communities I have been involved in the Mustang has been the best. I find that many are helpful and friendly, with less gatekeeping. I also notice that out of all the cars I have owned this gets the most thumbs ups and random people admire it. Every time I hear that exhaust Cold start it makes me smile. Driving the Mustang is also a treat. The sound, the grip, power. I often find myself with the windows down and the radio off so I can listen to the 5-litre symphony. It helps melt away daily stress.

Sure, with Mustangs you have a lot of options just make sure you do your research. If you plan on modifying the Mustang once you find the right one does not go overboard ASAP. Curate your mod list. It is very easy to go down the rabbit hole as the S550 is very well supported in the aftermarket.

Good tires should be a priority and suspension tuning so you don't take out crowds. Focus on your goals, do you want a drag car, a streetcar, or a track car? The S550 is a Swiss army knife and can do it all. Also, work on your own driving skill if you are new to Mustangs, you can get in trouble. Also always keep your eyes open for those that have come before you, there is a lot of knowledge out here on the S550.

The colour combo hands down. I am constantly asked if it's a wrap or if I love the colour. How the stance of the car is set up is a close second. Green is my favourite colour and when I saw Eruption Green was available I had to order it.

My friends Ted, Hector and John have helped me out the most on installs. Things beyond what I feel like doing I entrust to Finley Williams racing.

Future Plans

There are plenty of plans for this car. I will be focusing on power and adding a Roush S/C, a new hood for more ventilation, and some interior pieces to mix it up too.

Shout Outs

I am in a few groups: DFW S550s Corner ponies on Facebook, my car fam group,

The Car scene has been great for me. I worked with a group of guys from Prime NYC and SNTRL, invaded time square, have friends in different countries, all over the states, and met some very inspiring people. My daily grind at work comes from automotive work and fun.

Honestly, I owe a lot to all those with that I have crossed paths on my automotive journey, I love the different points of view and differences in culture. It's like a brotherhood, it doesn't matter what you look like or where you came from, we all have the same passion with different tastes. All that matter is how can we help advance each other's journey, and give our youth a path choice that may not be traditional to them.

Dream Car

I have a few dream cars, I'll list a few, 69 Mustang, a 69 Super Bee, Aston Martin DBS, or an Audi UR Quattro S1. The list goes on, and on.
