How a Love for Modified Cars Started
My name is Cesar Espinoza, and I’m originally from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. I'm 34 now, working as an HVAC technician in the United States—a place I moved to when I turned 20.
I’ve always been a chill, down-to-earth kind of guy. I love learning from others, especially when it comes to cars. My passion for modified vehicles started way back when I played Need for Speed: Most Wanted. That game lit the spark for me. The styling, the freedom, the idea of creating your own unique car—it pulled me into the car world, and I haven’t looked back since.
From Daily Drivers to Full Custom Projects
So, why a Golf? Funny enough, it started out as a daily. I wasn't even planning to modify it. But then I got the wheels—and something just clicked. I realized this car had real potential. That was the beginning of what you see today.
Before I found my Golf, I went through a few other cars that played a big role in teaching me the ropes:
- My first car was a 2004 Suzuki Aerio. It wasn’t a project car, but it taught me a lot about automotive basics.
- Then came a 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer—I had big plans, but only made a few mods before it was totaled in an accident.
- After that, I picked up a 2003 Honda Civic VTEC, which I started modifying. I saw the potential in it, but it was sadly taken out by a careless driver.
Finally, I landed on the 2011 Volkswagen Golf—and this one, this one stuck.
Why My Widebody Golf Is Unique in the VW Scene
Driving the Golf is both fun and therapeutic. But more than that, every time I park it and step back, I feel proud. I think of all the late nights and effort that went into it.
And when people stop me to ask about the car or compliment the build, it reinforces that I'm doing something right. I’m showing the potential that this platform has.
What really sets my Golf apart is the widebody kit—you don’t see many Golfs running this style. Combine that with custom diffusers, handcrafted headlights, and side skirts, and you’ve got a look that truly stands out.
Advice for New Volkswagen Golf Builders
If you’re just starting out with a Golf build—especially a widebody or show car—my biggest advice is simple: Be patient.
Don’t rush into mods just to keep up with others. Buy what fits your budget and take your time. Every car build is a journey, not a race.

A Personal Touch on Every Mod
I wouldn’t call myself a pro mechanic, but I love doing the work myself when I’ve got the tools. Nearly everything on the car, I’ve done on my own. It’s a point of pride for me. Looking ahead, I’m thinking about some big next steps—maybe an engine swap down the line. Short-term? A new vinyl wrap and wheels are definitely coming soon. I’m also going to keep refining the interior and exterior to make sure every detail lines up with the vision I have.
Finding Community with @NVus_916 Car Club
I’m a proud member of @NVus_916, and honestly, it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made as a car enthusiast. It’s not just a club—it’s a family. Everyone helps each other, supports each other’s builds, and shares knowledge. I haven’t been a part of any other clubs, and I don’t see myself needing to. I always recommend NVus to fellow enthusiasts looking for a supportive community.
More Than Just Cars—It’s About the Lifestyle
Being a car enthusiast has given me so much—friendships, knowledge, and a sense of belonging. And as for my dream car? I’ve always had my eye on the 2001 BMW M3 E46. That one will forever hold a special place in my heart as my first dream machine.
