RWB Porsche 911 964 C2: A Rare Masterpiece

Do you remember the first car you built? Of course, you do. For John Lau, his first modified car was a 1993 Honda Accord, turbocharged, sitting on Work wheels, Lowered on Neuspeed Springs, and adjustable Koni Shocks.  

Growing up surrounded by Los Angeles' strong JDM-influenced car scene, John often found himself in Gardena, watching Thursday night street races. His passion for cars grew from these experiences. He has built 8 cars that have been featured in the SEMA Show topping it off with a crazy 240Z that placed in the top 10 for Battle of the Builders

The Journey to RWB

I was in high school when I met David Lee at church. Seeing his Ferrari collection inspired me to start my own, not just as a car owner but as a true enthusiast. I have always admired the craftsmanship of RWB builds. Watching YouTube videos of Akira Nakai at work felt like watching a story unfold.

My first widebody build was a Liberty Walk GTR R35, but my love for Porsche always ran deep. It was only natural that my next project would be an RWB Porsche. These builds reflect what you put into them, and I invested everything to ensure my 964 would be both visually and mechanically stunning.

A Rare and Authentic RWB Build

Mujer Bonita is an exceptionally rare RWB build. This car was not just built but also raced in Japan. Unlike many RWBs that simply have "Idlers" spray-painted on their tires, "my Porsche actually competed in the legendary Idlers race series"Most RWB Porsche's in the U.S. are just 993 C4's but my build is a true gem a 964 C2. The original owner, Motomasu Ono, did an incredible job caring for it before I became its new caretaker in December 2022.

Since acquiring Mujer Bonita, I have worked tirelessly to refresh her. I did a complete R&I Paint Job meaning I took everything apart and even popped out the windows to make sure even all the edges were painted including the door jams. In my own bespoke version of Porsche Cobalt Blue Metallic. I upgraded the seats to Recaro Pole Positions, installed wider and more aggressively fitted three-piece wheels, and kept the ducktail as a backup set.

I had Nakai San make me a whole new GT2 Deck and Kamiwaza wing, in addition to the new custom Titanium Vortex Intake, Billy Bloat Long Tube Headers and custom true dual Titanium exhaust with an electronic valve system. I installed a new full sound system with detachable face Kenwood System, JL Audio Sub Floor Speakers, Precision Power Amps and MB Quartz separates, lowered over Koni shocks. I even sourced the last remaining new OEM engine fan and magnesium shroud left in North America for the 964 and a brand-new OEM windshield. A lot of these modifications are not obvious because my vision is to make it look like it’s OEM plus but try to find another 964 C2 or C4 with a true dual exhaust set-up. 

Many claim their stripped-out interiors make their cars "race-ready," but I wanted something functional and refined. I treated all leather and vinyl surfaces with Artdeshine Nano-Graphene coating, ensuring long-lasting shine and hydrophobic protection. I decided to keep the racecar look of the interior because there’s already a toy model of my car from Ignition Model so I wanted to keep it looking similar. I focused more on restoration.

Engine & Performance:

  • Built motor with reinforced rods, pistons, crankshaft, and overhead cam
  • High-lift custom racing camshaft
  • WPC-processed and coated engine components
  • Custom cyclone air intake
  • EMS standalone ECU
  • Upgraded ignition coils
  • Drag Bolt On Turbo Kit 
  • Upgraded 993 Turbo brakes
  • Racing short shifter
  • Billy Boat long tube headers with heat exchangers
  • $15,000 custom titanium dual exhaust with electronic valves by TurboHoses (reduced weight by 30 lbs)
  • Manual transmission overhauled and WPC-processed
  • Tuned to over 300 HP. With the new titanium intake, dual exhaust and long tube headers, we are estimating the car to be 350 hp 

Exterior Modifications:

  • RWB widebody kit built and installed by Akira Nakai in Japan
  • Full repaint in bespoke Porsche Cobalt Blue Metallic (June 2023)
  • STEK paint protection film on the entire car
  • Artdeshine Nano-Graphene coating applied to film, windows, wheels, tires, and interior
  • EXO Shield windshield protective film installed
  • Upgraded xenon headlights
  • Upgraded LED taillights
  • RGB underglow lighting

Interior Upgrades:

  • Recaro Pole Position bucket seats with red Alcantara
  • MOMO racing steering wheel
  • Custom Alpine sound system with subwoofer
  • Aluminum racing floors
  • Custom dash toggles and buttons
  • Carbon fiber accents
  • Leather and vinyl coated with Artdeshine Nano-Graphene hydrophobic protection
