1995 Toyota 2jz swapped Supra - Jason Olog

Not only was the supra my dream car but the engine platform was amazing as well. The aftermarket support for the 2jz was what seemed to be endless. Growing up you would hear numerous stories or videos of people claiming to just upgrade the fuel system and bigger turbo and they would make close to 1000hp on a 2jz.

My name is, Jason Olog, I am 29 years old. I was born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas and am a cancer survivor. Before cars, sneakers were my obsession. I have been collecting sneakers since 2006 to currently, although cars have definitely taken over, and my sneaker collection has slowed down drastically.

Building a car is a lot more stressful and expensive compared to collecting sneakers in my opinion. I worked at Volkswagen for about 6 years and have learned a lot about automotive since then. I was able to learn the basics of how vehicles work and operate.

So, my very first car was a 2004 chevy cavalier. This car is what brought me into the automotive community/ car scene. It was my senior year of high school when I got the vehicle and I've always admired people's unique vehicles that were customized. I have always been curious and wanted to customize my own vehicle but I didn’t know where or how to get started. My Uncle Lloyd was actually the first person to help me get started with actually getting my own hands dirty and working on the car myself. My very first modification for the cavalier was installing two 10” kicker subwoofers and after that, I was instantly hooked! I would explore the internet endlessly to see what modifications I could do next to the vehicle.

Watching fast and furious when it came out also played a huge part in how I got into modifying vehicles. How Paul walker and the team took an old beat-up supra and turned it into a “10-second car” left such a big impression on me, that the mkiv supra became my dream car. A couple of years go by and after many hours of research, I knew the cavalier wasn’t going to get me to where I wanted to be and I couldn’t afford my dream car at the time. I finally got a new job and started to work as a porter at Volkswagen and I slowly worked my way up the ladder.

I did every job on the service side of things from porter, parts consultant, technician and service advisor throughout my 6 years there. I was able to learn so much through my job and it allowed me to use this knowledge for my own vehicles. Throughout the years I've gone through vehicles after the cavalier; I had a Honda Accord, and Subaru sti before I finally attained my dream car, the Toyota supra. My dream became a reality and drove the car everywhere! The feeling you get behind the wheel is definitely surreal, and the first thing I did to it was thrown on some ksport coilovers and a carbon fiber hood.

Well, good thing my supra already came with this amazing engine platform. Unfortunately, the supra I bought was the non-turbo model of the supra so it had the 2jzge in it instead of the 2jzgte. It was 2016 so the complete 2jzgte engine was still cheap at the time so I purchased one to swap into the car later down the road. Thus, began a collection of parts needed for the engine swap.

In December of 2017, I was driving back to home from San Antonio when, a coyote ran out in front of me and destroyed the front bumper, radiator, core support and clutch fan. I saw this as a perfect excuse to go ahead and swap in that 2jzgte engine that I had purchased.

The original plan was to build that gte and then put it in the car but I missed driving it so much that, I didn’t care if it was stock or not, I just wanted to drive the car again asap. So, with the help of some good friends, we took the engine out of the supra that summer night. While the engine was out, I replaced the damaged core support and degreased the engine bay before dropping in the new engine. time passes by with no real progress on the car, mainly due to me being consumed with work and missing parts to complete the swap. I got tired of just looking at how dusty and unused my dream car had become; I finally found some motivation and got all the needed parts.

Next thing I know, the new engine is sitting in the engine bay and she is looking like a complete car again! I'm still missing some major parts at this time like the ECU, engine harness, and driveshaft but we're almost there. More time goes by, engine harness is in along with the ECU. It's nerve-racking to do that first start-up attempt with a new engine, hoping nothing goes wrong. I jump in the car and turn the key and she starts right up! Nothing beats that feeling of hearing your new engine for the first time!

In July of 2019, my life changed forever and I was diagnosed with cancer. I was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and although my car was so close to being back on the road, I had to put that on hold and focus on myself. Luckily, I have amazing friends that would come over if they had time and help piece back together my car to get it back on the road! In February of 2021, the supra hit the streets for the first time since December of 2017. I had a smile from ear to ear driving it around the block for the first time in years. I enjoyed it in that stock engine swap form for about 1 year till I decided to go single turbo with it and really start the build for it.

I became healthy enough to work on the car again and started to build and source my own turbo kit for the car. Removing the stock twin turbo with the engine still in the vehicle wasn’t a good time, to say the least. I went with a divided BPA tubular turbo manifold with dual tial mvr wastegates and a BorgWarner s366 turbo. After I installed them and turned the car on for the first time, I got chills hearing the new turbo set-up. It was really music to my ears.

Why stop there though let's upgrade the fuel system while we're at it to get the most from this set-up. I went with a radium fuel rail, 2000cc injectors, 8an braided fuel lines and walboro 450 fuel pump. Had some custom fabrication work done as well for the downpipe and intercooler piping, and also put in an emu black standalone system in the car. Slowly but surely my vision is becoming a reality.

Went to San Antonio to get the car dyno tuned. She put down 353 whp and 373 torque on the mustang dyno that day. We were running into minor issues with the map sensor and transmission communication. These issues have been fixed since the dyno and she should put down a lot more now but still, I'm proud of this build since it was all done with my own hands, in my garage. This wouldn’t have been possible without my friends that helped me with it when I wasn’t in the best of health. I have since completed my cancer treatments and am in remission.

This build is nowhere near complete! Before I go back for a retune the plan is to get an e85 and 6-speed t56 transmission. After that, the 2jzge non-vvti engine that was removed from the supra will undergo a full-on build. I will completely tear down the engine and upgrade the pistons, rods, camshafts, valve springs, ati dampeners and more. It will be the 1000hp supra as seen on YouTube or see numerous stories of that is the future goal for this car. I do plan to make it a drag car and show car. I'm very proud of this car and how far it has come, it hasn’t been easy but the perseverance is paying off. Never would I have thought I'd own my dream let alone actually build it with my own 2 hands.
