From Midwest Hondas to an MKIV Obsession
I’m Adam Cha. I started in the scene around 2001 on Hondas and Acuras in the Midwest, but somewhere along the line the MKIV Supra took over my imagination. I wanted one long before the movies made them iconic — as early as 1999 — but back then a Supra felt unattainable. I watched prices creep up, saved, learned, and in 2019 decided it was “now or never.” After calling the right people and taking a plane to test, dyno and drive the car, I pulled the trigger and shipped the Supra 1,600 miles home. That leap was the start of the build you see today.
Why This Supra — The Choice and the Journey
From day one, my goal was clear: a streetcar with serious performance, not a trailer queen. I wanted something I could drive, enjoy and push — not just look at. The core here is a 2JZGTE mated to a V160 6-speed manual, and the turbo choice (Precision 6266) gives the combination the right balance of spool and top-end. At 15psi on 93 octane ,the car produces 528whp — satisfying, very streetable, and reliable when set up correctly.
The purchase was a process of research and trust: I worked with 2JZ Motorsports, had the car dynoed before buying, and committed to a setup that served real-world use. The Supra had to be enjoyable every day, not just in 60-second bursts on a dyno sheet.
Driving Impressions: Street-Focused, Big-Power Feel
This Supra feels like a refined weapon on the road. The V160 6-speed gives direct engagement, control, and a tactile connection to the drivetrain that an automatic just can’t match. HKS Hipermax coilovers keep it composed over imperfect pavement, while Continental ExtremeContact rubber puts the power down without losing grip. At cruise it’s civilized; at full throttle, it’s dramatic. Adam jokes he wants 200 more horsepower — but he knows it needs to be done without sacrificing drivability.
The Build — What’s Under the Hood and On the Chassis
Adam chose high-quality, purpose-built parts across the car: a Precision 6266 turbo on a custom tubular manifold, a custom 4" V-band exhaust, Walbro 485 fuel pump for feed stability, ETS 4" intercooler to control charge temps, HKS Super Sequential BOV, Mishimoto radiator, and a South Bend custom clutch to handle the torque. It’s a sensible, resilient combo aimed squarely at street performance.
On the chassis: HKS Hipermax coilovers, CTS-V BBK conversion (6-pot front / 4-pot rear), StopTech lines, and multiple wheel sets (Volk GTN, Work Meister S1, CCW D110) depending on the mood or event. The car’s carbon fibre aero and an Avery Pearl White wrap make it stand out visually while the interior stays functional — Bride seats, harnesses, a Works Bell hub, AEM wideband/boost monitor and an Alpine head unit that keeps everything user-friendly.
Details That Matter: Parts List
The build reads like a careful shopping list of parts that complement each other: the Precision 6266 for headroom, custom 4" piping and ETS intercooler to keep temps low, Walbro 485 fuel delivery for stable duty, and a South Bend clutch to transfer power cleanly to the V160 6-speed. On stopping and control the CTS-V big brake conversion with Hawk pads and StopTech lines is an upgrade that matches the engine’s temperament. Wheels rotate between Volk GTN, Work Meister and custom CCW sets — picked for balance between looks and track-capable performance.
Future Plans: Black Paint & 700+whp Target
Adam’s next steps are straightforward: peel the Avery Pearl White wrap back to original black, then chase 700+whp. He says that number will be the end-game for this car — the sweet spot for street-power that still lets the Supra be driven often and reliably. He’s clear about limits: he’s not blindly chasing huge numbers; he’s building to a goal he can enjoy.
The Community, the Weekends, the Reward
This car is social glue. Adam spends weekdays tuning and improving it; at weekends he’s out meeting enthusiasts, comparing notes and enjoying the car culture that brought him here. The Supra is a culmination of long-term focus, community help (2JZ Motorsports was pivotal), and the kind of patience only years of saving and planning can buy.
