My Journey with Classic Cars: A Tale of Restoration and Passion

In the world of automotive enthusiasts, our love for cars often starts at a young age. For me, that connection was forged in my family's history in the motor trade. My parents met while working for Datsun, and ever since, I've had a profound affection for all things automotive. Although I don't make a living in the auto industry, my passion for tinkering and building/repairing vehicles runs deep. My sanctuary? The garage.

A Lifelong Love Affair with Cars

From an early age, I was drawn to the world of automobiles. At the tender age of 15, I acquired my first Nova SR and immediately began modifying it, preparing for the day I would earn my driver's license. Since then, I've continued to ascend, embracing more advanced and unique cars. Even today, I actively modify vehicles, but I've grown attached to them, avoiding any future regrets.

The Unique Choice: My Car

Why did I choose this particular car? Well, it all started with sporadic sightings of this unique model on the road. When I stumbled upon it in Wales, I knew I had to save it from obscurity.

The Pride of Ownership

Owning this car fills me with immense pride. However, I must admit that it's a bit low for my aging back, though the ride quality is exceptional.

Unveiling the Unique Features

What makes my car truly one-of-a-kind? Well, for starters, there aren't many of these left, and I've invested in custom paint, carbon fiber components, interior upgrades, special wheels, and unique body modifications.

The Build Process

Here's a glimpse into my impressive build list: I meticulously stripped the car down to bare metal and embarked on a ground-up restoration. Significant rusty metal was removed, and I extended and reinforced the chassis rails. To boost structural integrity, a custom cage was crafted, and a fuel cell was added due to the deplorable condition of the boot floor and tank.

The original L26 engine remains, but it received a refreshing overhaul. I added a mild cam, triple 40 Italian Weber carbs, electronic ignition, throttle cable conversion, a 6-branch stainless exhaust, and a powder-coated, refurbished underside. Adjustable arms were also incorporated for that perfect wheel fit. The Work Seeker CX 17x9.5 ET-19 wheels all around, including a spare, give it a distinct look. The suspension includes Gaz coilovers, offering an excellent ride.

Inside the car, custom-made seats, a Nardi deep corn steering wheel, an OEM wooden gear knob, and a custom carpet set for rear seat deletion add a personal touch. The exterior features custom carbon arches, a spoiler, and tail light surrounds from Elite Carbon Composites, all done to the highest standards.

The welding was skillfully done by Build Retro and the painting by SWM Paintwork. The rest of the work was a labour of love, involving me, my friends, and my dad.

Future Plans and Aspirations

The journey isn't over yet. Future plans for my car include incorporating more carbon components, adding some eye-catching decals, and even contemplating building another one.

Valuable Advice for Fellow Enthusiasts

To my fellow car enthusiasts, I offer simple but invaluable advice. Take your time and enjoy the journey. Rushing a project often leads to regrets. Invest in quality parts, even if it means saving a bit longer. Most importantly, build your car for yourself, not for the approval of others. Consider powder coating and nickel plating; they're affordable and elevate the final assembly of your project.

My journey in the world of classic car restoration and modification has been a fulfilling one. With an unwavering passion for cars, dedication, and a commitment to quality, it's a journey that continues to evolve. Remember, it's not just about the destination; it's the love for the ride that truly matters.
