2015 Subaru STI - Yonatan Valtierra
I’m a big Honda guy at heart my first car was actually a 1990 Acura Integra, my second car was a 94 Acura Integra GSR, and I’ve had like 4 Integras. My wife tells me “you can never leave anything stock” well she’s right.

2015 Subaru STI
Yonatan Valtierra
My Name is Yonatan (Jonathan- parents wanted to be unique) Valtierra, originally from Guadalajara Mexico but grew up in the Good Ole USA. Grew up in LA and settled down in Baltimore Maryland. I work for a Contractor for the Baltimore Gas & Electric Company called Utility Support Services as a Field Supervisor for our Underground Gas Installation Division. My Main Hobby is working on cars. I’ve been wrenching on cars since I was 8yrs old, and most recently I’ve gotten into racing. From Auto Cross to mainly Drag Racing.
I gotta say I’ve been into cars since I was a little kid. My favourite toy was a little red hot wheels mustang that according to my parents I never let go of. But actually getting into working on cars happened when I was 8yrs old. My Uncle Julio got his hands on a White1994 Ford Taurus SHO that had been rear-ended, and little by little after school I’d help work on it and we restored it. It was a great feeling seeing that car run again and we enjoyed it for years to come.
But the main culprit would have to be my friend Marcos Alvarado, he was a family friend and mechanic, whenever there was something we couldn’t figure out we called him. He noticed that I was into cars and talked to my parents about bringing me to the garage after school and they agreed. Went from learning to change brakes to full engine swaps. Piston and rotary didn’t matter we did it all. His greatest achievement was his 1973 Corolla with a Ford rear end, original 3tc engine with aluminium rods and pistons, and stock Celica transmission, and it was converted to fuel injection using Honda ECU by Pito Tuning out of Harrisburg. It was a beast and ran 9sec at 163mph at the track. And I’ve wrenched on cars ever since.
I’m a big Honda guy at heart my first car was actually a 1990 Acura Integra, my second car was a 94 Acura Integra GSR, and I’ve had like 4 Integras. My wife tells me “you can never leave anything stock” well she’s right. Of course, it started with an exhaust and that Subie rumble that everyone knows was just music to my ears. Eventually within 6 months of owning the car I went FBO, and flex-fuel and was at an amazing 400whp. But unfortunately, I was in an accident where another car ran a stop sign and smashed into my car.
The car was luckily not totalled but the engine suffered a catastrophic failure. So what did I do? Well, I got the engine built like all car guys, couldn’t let her go. My goal was always to have a car That I could daily travel with my wife and son, but when I wanted to have some fun with a flick of a switch I can hurt a lot of feelings. So we got to work with the help of Kinetic Autoworks, TDMI and Drunkman Tuning.
It’s one of the greatest accomplishments in my life. As a kid, I would always look at all the cool cars and tell my parents how that’ll one day be me. And I can finally say I’m there. When I drive the car it’s just a feeling of relaxation and peace, whether I’m cruising on the highway or going down the Drag Strip, just the total satisfaction of driving something that I helped build. Even when I park the car I can’t help but turn around and look back as im walking away. But the greatest feeling ever is when kids come up and they tell me “cool car, can you make it Pop and I give it some gas just that big smile on their face full of excitement just takes me back, It’s just dejavu, man it is just something you can’t explain unless you experience it yourself the satisfaction of knowing that you are getting the recognition that you worked hard to get. The inspiration you are giving to the next generation of car enthusiasts.
I think the most unique thing about my car is the stock look. I mean people just think it’s another Subaru with an exhaust until we line up or pop the hood. Hard to believe she’s putting down over 600whp. When I give people a ride-along their reactions are Priceless from complete and utter joy to just freaking out, is all the same to me.

I’ve always been the kind of guy to work on his own car. And that was taught to me by my
Good friend Marco. When I originally bought the car I did the work myself, from brakes to turbo upgrades. It was a lot to learn especially coming from the Honda world. But after the accident I wanted it to get fully built and who better than Kinetic Autoworks here in Maryland. They did the engine build and install with break-in-tune. But I also put my hands into the mix, I did the entire fuel system myself from the pumps, wiring the rails and the fuel lines all of it was done by me, the suspension was also installed by me along with the extended studs and the brake upgrades, the exhaust system was also installed by me. For everything that I couldn’t do myself or didn’t know I had a little help from my personal friends like Kyle and Rafael from TDMI, Felix at Felix Performance, Anthony aka Drunk man, and can’t forget Sean and Mike from Kinetic Autoworks.
Future Plans
Man the bug always bites harder lol, but I’m hoping for the future to be in the 1000hp club and the 200mph club in the future. I would love to take this car to drag week across the midwest and show what she can do. Going closed deck and rotated turbo kit works absolutely everything possible with the car maybe even go with a sequential transmission and give it all the beans. But I got another project in the works alongside my StI. It’s my 1996 Acura Integra GSR Sedan with 66k original miles!!! Doing a simple cruiser with go Autoworks ac friendly turbo kit and tune.
Advice/Tip
Just go for it. You will not regret it! Even in stock form the STI is one of the best handling cars you will ever own. But with rewards comes risk. My advice is ready to pay it’s not the cheapest car and it’s not the cheapest car to maintain and modifying a used engine will set you back 6k that’s without labour. My advice go at the pace you can handle may not always be the pace you want but all rewards come in due time and come later rather than sooner. Believe me, from experience best advice I could anyone is you gotta pay to play and be ready to play cause all cars break and even the simplest thing can be a major headache but be patient and follow your passion.
Shout Outs
Gotta give a shout-out to many people: Kinetic Autoworks for the amazing engine build, Drunkman for his patience and skills that kill behind the screen. Mike for answering my questions even though I could be annoying at times. Kyle for your guidance at the track. And my beer Friend Marco Alvarado with Alvarado Motorsport that as a friend he has taught me many lessons to survive in life and succeed and the skills to work on what I love, I could never repay anyone enough.
Car Scene
The car scene has brought me, family. It’s crazy that Friends I’ve met in the car world have become closer than my own blood, and even though life has put us down different paths and we’ve settled in different parts of the world we still are connected and act like we are still face to face, standing next to each other wrenching away on our cars or just enjoying the show at the track. But most importantly it’s brought me peace cause nothing relieves stress and gets rid of my demons like going to drive the windows down and music blasting!
Dream Car
My absolute dream car would be a 2002 Nissan Skyline R34 GTR Spec-V, I was very fortunate to drive one and man the sound of that in-line 6 and all wheels steering *chefs kiss* though not the most powerful car stock, it performs like a supercar and m
