Andy Kim - 2014 Hyundai Veloster Turbo
I got this car because I have a tendency to purchase unique cars and hatchbacks. I like to challenge myself and get cars no one would think of modifying and make them look clean.

I was born in Los Angeles California and joined the Navy right out of high school where I've been stationed in Jacksonville, FL, Patuxent River, MD, and now Lemoore, CA.
What got you into Cars?
What got me into cars you ask so I'm from LA where the import scene has been huge since the beginning. Grew up loving the older model Honda's with CWEST Kits and the crazy neons. Even had those shirts hung on my wall with the Hondas if you know you know. My first car was a 1994 Acura Integra LS which I didn't do much of since I was still in high school with no job, just modding the car of my lunch money. But after joining the Navy I purchased a 1997 Acura Integra RS which had a JDM front end with a B18C1 motor swap. From there I went a totally different route and wanted something I figured no one would like which was a 2009 Honda Fit Sport built to look clean for its tiny little 1.5L engine. Sold that and moved onto my current 2014 Hyundai Veloster Turbo.
Why this Car?
I got this car because I have a tendency to purchase unique cars and hatchbacks. I like to challenge myself and get cars no one would think of modifying and make them look clean. The Veloster as some of you know has 3 doors. Yes, 3 doors! 1 driver / 1 passenger / 1 rear passenger. That caught my eye and it was a turbo! who knew it would be so fun!
The way this car look makes me extremely happy. I end up always looking back at it after parking and to be able to show off my hard work at local shows and big shows. I can tell people appreciate the attention to detail on small things and It gives me the motivation to continue modding. When you drive by or park at a show the one kid that says "LOOK DAD LOOK AT THAT COOL CAR" makes it all worth it.
Advice/Tips
2 tips I can give about this car is it's fun to mod but very limited to what you can do. One source from great parts are scgarageworks.com they are based in Southern California and is the only place you can get good quality products for the Veloster and Greg the owner is amazing with customer service. Another tip is if you get this car make sure you use OEM oil filters like any car, there have been instances with other Veloster owners where non-OEM filters would leak oil or not perform well. Modifying tips I would give is to avoid modifying the headlights. The headlights are so big and awkward that it's a pain to take apart and modify.
What makes it Unique?
I think what makes my car so unique is the orange colour and the wide fender flares. I know when people see a stock Veloster vs. my car they can't believe how much I've done.

Most of the modifications I have done myself except the install of the air suspension, custom front lip, taillights and headlights. One tip I can give about doing fender flares or widebody is to take it extremely slow and make sure you measure twice and cut once.
Future Plans
I want to do a wire tuck from the engine bay and run hard lines for the air suspension. But eventually, I want to move onto a Tesla Model 3 and modify that.
Groups/Clubs
I am part of @NvUS. We all motivate each other to make our builds better. NvUS is a worldwide club that wants to be known for being dignified, respectful, and community-oriented. NvUS motto, "We Support Those Who Support Us." Being a part of NvUS is like having a second family. We always help each other in any way possible and always have a great time together even if it's just having a small bbq. If I end up in a bad situation I can always count on one of my fellow members to help me and pick me up.
Dream Car
My dream car is a 1995 Acura NSX. The funny thing is my friend has an NSX and I'm too tall to fit in it but I would find a way if I can purchase that car.
